The Board of Directors is elected by the Greater Irvine Chamber membership to provide governance, strategic direction, and fiduciary oversight. Board members champion the Chamber’s mission and serve as advocates within the business community, offering professional expertise and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Attendance & Participation
- Attend approximately 8 regular Board meetings per year and the Annual Planning Retreat.
- Support and promote Chamber signature and recurring events through sponsorship, attendance, and outreach—including on social media.
- Serve on Board committees as requested.
Leadership & Representation
- Demonstrate leadership by voting on positions, guiding strategy, and approving key procedures.
- Represent the Chamber as an ambassador at community and business events.
Training & Orientation
- Complete a Board of Directors orientation.
Financial Oversight
- Engage in discussions and voting related to the Chamber’s budget and finances.
Collaboration
- Work constructively with fellow Board members and staff.
- Represent the Chamber at business functions as needed.
- Maintain active communication with Board members, committee chairs, and Chamber members.
Confidentiality
- Uphold strict confidentiality regarding all Board matters.
Onboarding Process
Submit application and supporting materials.
Interview with the Board Development Committee.
Nomination and approval by the full Board at a scheduled meeting.
Attend orientation with the Chamber President & CEO.
Participate in your first Board meeting.
Frequently Asked Questions
Applications are accepted year-round. The Board Development Committee reviews applications, considering business and professional demographics, industry, and organizational needs. Finalists are interviewed, with nominations subject to full Board approval.
Professionalism, leadership, commitment to the Chamber’s mission, strong interpersonal and communication skills, sound judgment, and willingness to mentor and share expertise.
16–30, as specified by Chamber bylaws.
3 years per term; members may re-apply for a second term.
Approximately every 6 weeks on Tuesdays, 8:00–9:30 a.m. at the Chamber office.
Up to 3 absences are allowed before Executive Committee review. Virtual attendance may be permitted in special circumstances.
Attendance at the annual retreat is required. Members may also serve on committees or task forces.
An annual fee of $1,500 covers Board dues, the annual retreat, and related events. (Subject to change.)
