UC Irvine To Present AlphaPersuade: A Summit on Ethical AI

EVENT: The University of California, Irvine’s School of Humanities and Beall Applied Innovation will co-host AlphaPersuade: A Summit on Ethical AI. Join industry leaders and multidisciplinary academics from across the country for this one-day conference exploring the ethics of using artificial intelligence for persuasion.

BACKGROUND: Responding to the call from industry to reflect on and address AI’s unprecedented potential to influence (or mislead or manipulate), the summit presents a framework for ethical persuasion that can be designed into AI technologies and regulate their applications. Built on long-standing principles of democratic rhetoric, the framework seeks to provide guidance on AI users’ capacity to affect human behavior and belief.

Conference keynotes and sessions will feature Steven Mailloux, President’s Professor Emeritus of rhetoric at Loyola Marymount University; Olaf Kramer, director of the Center for Rhetorical Science Communication Research on Artificial IntelligenceTiera Tanksley, faculty fellow with the UCLA Center for Critical Internet InquiryCasey Mock, chief policy and public affairs officer for the Center for Humane TechnologyBill Marcellino, senior behavioral and social scientist at RAND; and many more.
